Susto is a very honest band whose lead singer writes songs from an honest place. He tends to question worldly as well as spiritual existence often. He seems to be very embattled with thoughts of organized religion. This album is very personal and centers around life and death. I enjoy this one a bit more than the last two because I feel like his heart is even more on his sleeve lyrically. There is a definite island vibe in the instrumentals that is very appealing.
Favorite track: Life Is Suffering.

Time In The Sun is the 4th full length album from Charleston, SC band Susto. The album was written and recorded in the midst of a lot of life changing events for lead writer/singer Justin Osborne. Like everyone around the world, Osborne was navigating the global issues felt from the pandemic while normal life continued with its own blessings and challenges.. "We were navigating the global and national issues that everyone else was dealing with, but also I became a father and also lost my father. There was a lot of contemplation going on in my brain, a lot of personal evolution going on in my life, and songwriting was my way of working through it all. The title Time in the Sun is meant to be a monument to my own human existence and also a tribute to the human experience in general. I wouldn’t claim to understand what it means to be a human, from the countless different perspectives of the world, but I do have my own experience to reflect on and I want to be able to express and explain that in some way. I guess this album is an attempt at that. At the core though, it’s just a collection of songs about my life and my feelings." Time In The Sun is set for release on October 29, 2021 via New West Records.

Most of this album was made under extraordinary circumstances, during the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020-2021. I’m so grateful for everyone who took the risk of coming to the studio for recording. I’m also grateful for the patience of everyone who worked on this project remotely. It was an interesting way to make a record, but the process was crucial for maintaining my sanity and hope for the future. Thank you to everyone involved, directly and indirectly.
First and foremost, thank you to my wife Meghan Erlene Osborne and our daughter Harriet. Your love and confidence in me is a never-ending source of motivation to be the best version of myself. Thank you for keeping me grounded and inspired during this process.

Thank you to the United States government for providing payroll protection and small business loans in a time of crisis. This support was the only way we were able to continue recording throughout the shutdown. Special thanks to King Business and Financial Management for helping us secure those resources.
Also thank you to all the fans who contributed to my livestream performances during the early days of lockdown. Those contributions gave my family security in uncertain times, and gave me the peace of mind to focus on creating Time in the Sun.
Thank you to John Allen, Kim Buie, George Fontaine Jr., and the whole New West team for believing in this album and helping me get it across the finish line. Y’all are amazing!

Thank you to Nectar Sunglasses for keeping our eyes protected during all this Time in the Sun. Thank you to Sunshine House for providing a safe and enriching environment for Harriet while Meghan and I were working. Thank you to College of Charleston and the USDA Forest Service for keeping me occupied and intrigued between recording sessions.
Thank you to all of my family and friends, too many to mention, who continue to make my life meaningful. I love y’all more than I could ever express.
Finally, thank you to our Charleston, SC community. We are so lucky to live in this beautiful place surrounded by so much love and support. Time in the Sun could not have been made anywhere but here.
The song “Time, Love & Fun” is dedicated to the memory of my father, Robert J. “Bo” Osborne, Jr., who left us midway through the recording process. I love you Dad, and I miss you everyday.
This album is dedicated to my daughter Harriet, and any future children. I have only been around for 34 years, but I have found life on our miracle planet to be full of mystery and wonder. Life is brutal and tragic, but also beautiful and full of love. I love you, and I am so glad you get to have some Time in the Sun…

The best I've heard from Steve Earle in a while. The songs have a subtler, earthier tone, tastefully rendered in authentic sounding country/blues/bluegrass stylings. 'J.T' reminds of earlier records like 'Feel Alright' or 'Train a Comin'.
Deep grief, love and compassion is felt on the final track, the only composition from Steve, seemingly written for his son. The rest, composed by JT, do confirm what a great songwriter he really was. tideracer
Riveting and hypnotic, “Exit Simulation” has the same sense of mystery as the best trip-hop, topped with ghostly vocal melodies. Bandcamp New & Notable Nov 10, 2023
